Sewage Rate Increase for 2022

Notice of Rate Increase for 2022

The Monroeville Municipal Authority wishes to inform its customers that Water rates will remain unchanged and Sanitary Sewer rates will increase in 2022.

As a part of the Clean Water Act, the EPA is requiring cities to upgrade their Sanitary Sewer systems and reduce the environmental impact from sewer overflows into the regions waterways. The subsequent upgrades have necessitated an increase in sanitary sewer treatment charges from ALCOSAN of 7% on January 1, 2022. This increase along with the inflationary impact on normal operating costs will increase Authority sewer expenses by approximately $550,000.

Effective January 12, 2022, Sanitary Sewer rates will increase by 7% per 1,000 gallons. The resulting residential rate will go from $13.64 to $14.59 per thousand. Alcosan also increased the monthly service charge 7% from $6.37 to $6.82. The monthly sewer bill for a residential minimum user (2,000 gallons) will increase by $2.35 in 2022.

The combined Sanitary Sewer and Water monthly rate for a residential minimum user (2,000 gallons) will increase from $45.11 to $47.46. Even with this rate increase the MMA Sanitary Sewer Rates will remain at or near the 50th percentile among ALCOSAN communities. Water rates will still be within the lowest 10% of purchased water rates in the surrounding areas.

The Monroeville Municipal Authority remains committed to operating and maintaining Monroeville's water and sanitary sewer systems to the highest standards at the lowest possible cost.
