Effective January 13, 2023, there will be a rate increase reflected in the monthly water and wastewater bill. This is due to a rate increase being passed to MMA customers from the wastewater treatment provider ALCOSAN.
There are several components that make up your water and wastewater bill. The increase will occur in the portion that includes the ALCOSAN wastewater treatment charge and ALCOSAN customer service charge. The portion of the bill controlled by the MMA will remain unchanged.
The ALCOSAN Wastewater Treatment charge will increase by 7%. The resulting combined residential rate will increase from $14.59 to $15.27 per thousand gallons. ALCOSAN also increased the monthly customer service charge 7% from $6.82 to $7.30. As a result of these increases, the monthly wastewater bill for a residential minimum user (2,000 gallons) will increase by $1.84 in 2023.
Even with this ALCOSAN rate increase, the MMA wastewater rates will remain at or near the 50th percentile among ALCOSAN communities. Water rates will remain within the lowest 10% of purchased water rates in the surrounding areas.
The Monroeville Municipal Authority remains committed to operating and maintaining Monroeville’s water and wastewater systems to the highest standards at the lowest possible cost.
