Water Division News

The Monroeville Municipal Authority Water Division began a rehabilitation program of its 10 million gallon Boyce Park storage facility this winter. This project was awarded to R&M Painting of Bethel Park in early December 2007 and is slated for completion in June 2008.

The rehabilitation includes sandblasting and applying a three coat paint system on the interior and exterior of the storage tank. Chester Engineers will serve as project manager and Monroeville Municipal Authority employees along with KTA Tater will oversee daily operations and inspections.

The Monroeville Municipal Authority has completed the 2007 lead and copper sampling. DEP guidelines mandate that all water companies test for excessive levels every 3 years. All water samples submitted by Monroeville Municipal Authority for analysis were below the action levels and results will be available in the 2007 Consumer Confidence Report in June 2008.

The Monroeville Municipal Authority has recently purchased a digital leak correlator to assist in locating water line leaks and shorten water outages. This state-of-the-art technology will help the Monroeville Municipal Authority operate more efficiently and reduce the percentage of non-revenue water loss.

Sewer Division News

The Monroeville Municipal Authority Sewer Division continues to work on compliance with the DEP consent order which must be completed by 2012. The work associated with this includes televising, mapping, and evaluating main sanitary sewer lines, manhole rehabilitation, and repairing problems found during this process. The dye testing phase of the consent order was completed in the summer of 2007. If you are planning on selling your home, please be advised that the dye testing completed in conjunction with the consent order does not fulfill the requirements of the home sale dyetest.

The Sewer Division is currently involved in a re-lining contract with Reynolds Incorporated, and is concentrating efforts on the defective lines which have been discovered to date. This work will not affect your water or sewer services.

Please remember if you experience any sanitary sewer problems, call the Monroeville Municipal Authority before calling a plumber. You can reach us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at (412) 372-2677. The answering service does pick up after normal hours and will page an on-call foreman. By calling Monroeville Municipal Authority first you could save a call to the plumber if the problem is something we are able to correct.
